Unless you've been hiding under a rock (or possibly taking more time to read books instead of being on the computer.) You have heard about at least one new feature pending for Twitter. During CES in Las Vegas, The Vice President of Product, Kayvon Beykpour recently shared the company's plans to offer users four options to customize their replies:
1. Anyone can reply
2. Only those who a user follows can reply
3. Only those tagged can reply
4. "Don't @me." - An option to get no replies
My guess is that cyberbullying skyrocketed over the past five years. (Think pre and post U.S. President election...) Speaking of the President. People are already expressing concern about the reply features allowing the President to silence his critics.
Either way, the new features provide a more customized experience to engage with your audience, freely express your views, and build your brand, without all the noise that can emerge with one little symbol.
One final note for social media managers, digital media managers, and content creators...
Twitter is removing audience insights from the analytics page! YIKES. I wonder if this is the beginning of a plan to monetize the feature? I hope not. But what I do know is that many people, who do not use services like Buffer, Hootsuite, and Sprout Social, rely on having this quick and valuable data when it's time to show clients and supervisors more than a few "receipts" when it's time for staff meetings and conference calls. Guess we all have to watch and wait. . .
